Minecraft Live 2026 Returns With Exciting Announcements and LEGO Set

Mojang unveils new game updates, a LEGO set, and free capes at TwitchCon Rotterdam

Category: Arts & Culture

Minecraft Live is back on a physical stage for the first time since 2016, and Mojang Studios has delivered an exciting lineup of announcements during the special edition broadcast on May 30, 2026. Taking place at the Twitch Rivals Arena in Rotterdam, Netherlands, this event marks Minecraft's most substantial convention presence in a decade, captivating its roughly 170 million monthly players.

The free stream, hosted by Mojang's Agnes Larsson, was accessible on multiple platforms including the official Minecraft YouTube channel, Twitch, TikTok, and Minecraft.net/live. This return to a live format was particularly notable as it is the first Minecraft Live since MINECON 2016 in Anaheim, California, and it coincided with Minecraft serving as the presenting sponsor of TwitchCon Rotterdam.

What Happened

The event kicked off at 9:30 a.m. PT / 11:30 a.m. ET / 4:30 p.m. BST, with thousands of attendees both in-person and online eagerly tuning in. For those unable to secure a seat in the main Twitch Rivals Arena, the broadcast was simultaneously streamed at the Cherry Grove Stage and the NomNom Theatre, ensuring that fans could participate in the festivities.

Among the highlights was the announcement of a new LEGO set, The Twisted Warden Battle (set 21591), which is tied directly to the upcoming game Minecraft Dungeons II. This 438-piece set features four hero minifigures—Kellen, Ren, Flores, and Valorie—and a buildable Twisted Warden boss figure. Priced at $59.99, the set is scheduled for release on August 1, 2026, and is the first LEGO set to draw from the Minecraft Dungeons II universe.

The Science Behind It

Another major focus of the broadcast was the Chaos Cubed update, designated Java Edition 26.2 and Bedrock Edition 26.30. Mojang had previously teased this update during the March 2026 Minecraft Live, and it was confirmed that the update will officially launch on June 16, 2026. This update introduces the Sulfur Caves biome, characterized by its distinct yellow and red color palette, and features hazardous sulfur pools that inflict the Nausea status effect on players who linger too long.

New block sets—including sulfur blocks and cinnabar blocks—expand building options significantly, and the headline new mob, the Sulfur Cube, will spawn exclusively in the Sulfur Caves. This unique mob can absorb any block a player gives it, changing its physical behavior accordingly; for example, wool makes it bounce like a beach ball, whereas ice makes it skid like a hockey puck.

What They Found

During the broadcast, Mojang also provided a sneak peek into Minecraft Dungeons II, which is set to launch in fall 2026. This action-RPG sequel, developed in collaboration with Double Eleven, will be available on various platforms including Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and Steam. The original Minecraft Dungeons, released in May 2020, reached 25 million players before Mojang ceased its development in 2023.

In addition to the game updates, attendees at TwitchCon had the opportunity to explore the Minecraft Arena, which featured themed biomes, exclusive merchandise, and creator appearances from popular streamers like Grian and LDShadowLady. The Minecraft Championship tournament was also part of the weekend's events, adding to the excitement for fans.

Limitations

It’s important to note that this event marked a shift from Mojang's previous strategy of remote livestreams and pre-recorded formats. The absence of co-host Jens Bergensten, who was unable to travel to Rotterdam, was felt during the presentation, but the excitement surrounding the event remained high.

What to Watch

In addition to the game and LEGO announcements, viewers could earn free in-game capes by participating in the event. The Builder Cape was available to anyone watching through the official Minecraft stream, with the specific claim method revealed during the broadcast. Meanwhile, TwitchCon attendees could earn the Crafter Cape by collecting three in-game emeralds through various activities held on-site.

The anticipation surrounding the Chaos Cubed update and Minecraft Dungeons II continues to build as fans eagerly await more details. The official release date for the Chaos Cubed update was a key point of interest, and Mojang is expected to announce additional information about Minecraft Dungeons II as the fall release approaches.

This year’s Minecraft Live event is not just a showcase of upcoming content; it’s a celebration of the community and the franchise's legacy. As Mojang continues to engage with its audience, fans can look forward to more updates, events, and surprises in the coming months. With the Minecraft community as vibrant as ever, the future looks bright for this beloved gaming franchise.
